For most people this time is very busy. If your not pulling together those last end of year reports and seeing what needs to or could be spent before the financial year ends, you are probably preparing budget figures for next year. It is a time when many people in business get a dose of hard reality and for some it is a time when you possibly question what you are doing and what you must do to improve next year

In this issue of Superb News I am focussing on how important it is to not give up on your dreams and to maintain that level of focus and strength of conviction. It is strange how things occur in your life that are gentle taps on your shoulder to remind you of what is important. Several events have occurred in my own life these past few weeks the significance of which did not make sense to me until I was to attend the funeral of a young 14 year old girl earlier this week. Brittany never gave up on her dreams in spite of what she had been going through these past 5 years and knowing what lay ahead. Her story is sad but from it we can all gain strength and hopefully feel the gentle tap on our shoulder. I certainly did and for that I thank young Brittany.

I hope you enjoy this issue and that you too can receive something positive from what I share with you in the articles I include. I welcome you sharing this email with your friends and associates and encourage you to do so. You can make use of the "Share with a friend" link at the end of this email.

IN THIS ISSUE

It is said that we attract into our lives what we are needing at the time. How often do you find that life is dropping hints to you about what you should be doing and how often do you ignore these gentle taps on you shoulder?

In the past couple of weeks I have been fortunate enough to attend business network events where I have been listening to some very successful people talk about never giving up on your dream and to always maintain your positive attitude. I have listened to Clive Savage (founder of Clive Peeters and now owner of Clive Anthony's) talk of how he built his businesses having never lost sight of that dream he had to build the stores that he did. A man few may have heard of is Justin Herald who went from turning $50 he borrowed at 25 into $13M by the age of 31 with his branding of product under the "Attitude" name.

The other day I was most privileged to have been offered the opportunity of listening to Anne McKevitt (www.swellintelligence.com) a young woman (now only 38) who left school in Scotland at 15 to establish a home decorating and design business. An offshoot of that business recently was sold with a turnover for the last 3 years of £975M (that's English POUNDS by the way). That is just one of approximately 30 companies she now runs from here in Australia.

Some key points that she made that I found worthy of sharing included:

bullet

Barriers of entry are only barriers of the mind

bullet

Crusade for success - be an extreme performer with absolute supreme self belief

bullet

Be realistic about what you do and add optimism

bullet

Simplicity defeats complexity

Unfortunately I have also in this past week attended the funeral of a young lady whom I had only met a few times over the past 3 years. She was just 14½  years young when she passed away. Each time I met her, I could never cease to be amazed the tremendous courage and faith she had in her own ability to deal with the brain tumour that had plagued her life since 2001. She openly talked of her condition to anyone and everyone and never felt sorry for herself and never gave up believing that her life was still meaningful and that she should live it to its fullest. I listened to her family, friends, teachers and nurses all talk about this amazing young girl’s attitude and sense of happiness. She never stopped smiling and laughing because she had her dreams and many of these were realised for her. Sadly the biggest dream was not to be.

In life we all face situations that we do not want to go through, hardship we do not wish to experience and sadness we would not wish upon anyone but regretfully some of us go through some or all of these situations. What we can do however is to take something away from the experience. For all of us who sat in that chapel, no matter how well we each may have known Brittany; we will remember the courage and strength to be found in this young lady.

We all go forward counting our own blessings and whilst feeling sorrow for her mother and the family’s loss, we can take away the sense of courage that she exhibited to us all.

What ever you do in life – live your dreams and ambitions with passion and never lose sight of what you desire. Life does not hand you your dreams on a silver plater, you have to work consciously towards achieving them. You must always do your best and you must come from a position of integrity.

Success is not about having money. It is not about prestige or how you look. Brittany was a success in life because she touched so many people in so many ways with her joy and excitement. She didn’t judge anyone. She has taught us all a most powerful lesson.  That is her legacy and we are all the richer for it.

When was the last time that you heard about a boy who never, ever gave up? I don't know about you, but it's not very often that I hear about that. Well, guess what? In Og Mandino's terrific novel, The Twelfth Angel, that's exactly the type of boy you meet.

Mandino exquisitely describes the story of a billionaire computer company's president, John Harding. He is the new and very occupied president of Millennium who is thinking about ending his life after the death of his adored wife Sally and his beloved son Rick in a car crash. As John Harding is thinking about committing suicide, his old kinder-garden friend shows up. After talking for a while, he asks John a question; one that mysteriously, yet extraordinarily changes his life forever. John accepts to be the coach of the Angels, a Little League Baseball team in which he had played thirty years earlier.

As Mandino makes the story move quickly, he draws for all his readers an adorable petit twelve-year old that plays for the Angels. His name is Timothy Noble. Timothy is uncoordinated and can't catch, bat, throw or even play baseball. In spit of all this, he never gives up! John Harding helps him after practice, but he can't get it right. Still, he never gives up and doesn't bother to keep on trying. Little by little he teaches his coach and team mates to be perseverant. He even got them to worry about when he was going to finally make his good throw.

I loved the book, which was pleasant, warm and heart touching. The story reaches all aspects of life including love, friendship, death, emotional strength, self-confidence and perseverance.
I recommend The Twelfth Angel to everyone because I think that no one should miss such an amazing, wonderful, extraordinary and enjoyable book, which was created so realistically. I think that it leaves us with a better view about life and leaves a magical lesson.

SPOTLIGHT: This is your life...

Socrates said, "The unexamined life isn't worth living." But others have countered, "The unlived life isn't worth examining." I agree with both.

It's about balance. If all we do is study, philosophise and contemplate, we've not fully lived. And if we only DO things-- filling our lives with activity with no meaning or self examination, we have also failed to fully experience this plane of existence.

We need both. We need purpose and meaning.

I can think of no greater pain than to be lying on my death bed not knowing if I'd made a difference, having regrets about things left undone or wondering what it was all for.

So how do we live full out? How do we fulfil our purpose?

Two words: Diligence and Consistency.

You can't do it in a day or a weekend. Like a good weight loss program, you have to be consistent. And you have to do it yourself--it can't be delegated. We have to pay attention. We have to think. We have to stay open. We have to know ourselves and be willing to learn. It's a rare individual who can do this on their own. We need support. We need to be accountable to others. We need teachers-- sometimes mentors and other times tormentors. We need ideas.

Sometimes we get sidetracked. Sometimes we get discouraged and disheartened. And sometimes we crash. But when we remain committed to doing and being our best, we end up living a full life. A life of adventure, a life filled with meaning and satisfaction. And when we are on the right path, we find that things start to work. Not always perfectly, but all manner of things seem to align with our purpose.

What's YOUR passion? Are you living your best life? Are you playing full out? Does your life have meaning and purpose?

You find what you're looking for. And if you're looking for all of that and remain diligent, you will surely find it.
